Sleight of Hand series - 2004

AUGMENTED REALITY WITH VISUAL MARKERS

Sleight of Hand explores the coexistence of virtual and real elements (mixed reality) for large-scale art installations. Visual, graphic markers are applied to deformable gloves and t-shirts that can be produced in bulk and given to installation visitors.

Various displays and cameras are embedded in the physical environment to act as "magic mirrors". As participants reveal the graphic markers on their gloves or other clothing, they see surprising images and animation combined with their reflection. In game applications, the computer generated images can provide clues to the game. Markers can even be hidden in t-shirt logos, displaying unusual special effects on the visitors' clothes.
