Liminal Devices, Allen's research group at MIT Media Lab Europe, developed a series of subtle, intimate interfaces; some utilized physiological sensors such as EMG and EEG. Research involving EEG and Brain-Computer Interfaces (BCI) focused on potential applications of BCI to everyday environments.
Think and Spell is a P300 based Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) that utilizes a system of word prediction and context aware semantics in order to select and compose messages using brain signals. The T9 word prediction algorithm, used for texting with mobile phones, was modified and combined with context-sensitive word selection. This approach can substantially improve inaccuracies and information transfer rates.
